The Board of Directors of the New York Council of the Society of American Registered Architects (SARA|NY) have selected Bright ‘n Green as the winner of the Building Performance Technology 2014 Design Award, featuring Bright ‘n Green alongside fellow NY Special Design Award winning projects – the LeFrak Center at Lakeside Prospect Park by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects and Christian Zimmerman (Re-imagined Civic Place Award), CUNY – The City University of New York (Academic Facilities & Planning Award), and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice at CUNY by Skidmore Owings & Merrill (Urban Learning Environment Design Award) – in their annual Design Awards.

A letter of congratulations from the Board of Directors in honor of the project’s recognition at the 2014 Celebration of Architecture and Design describes the project as, “a prototype to showcase hands-on solutions to totally meet the environmental requirements of a mixed use building”, and that it is, “inspiring to see a net-zero energy building constructed in the midst of a densely populated Brooklyn neighborhood” with “multiple groundbreaking sustainable assemblies [that] will inspire others to follow your lead”.

Bright ‘n Green’s adhering to Passive House construction guidelines, designing for LEED Platinum, Living Building Challenge and Passive House Certifications, along with the project’s use of wind and solar energy, heat recovery ventilation and water reclamation systems, and geothermal wells for cooling, heating and dehumidification were also stated as factors considered in selecting Bright ‘n Green as the winner of this prestigious award.
