Monday marked the 100th anniversary of the opening of subway service from Manhattan to Coney Island via the Manhattan Bridge by the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company (later called the Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Corporation). Now the B, JMZ, L, and NRQ lines and the Franklin Shuttle, in commemoration the MTA is putting into regular service vintage subway car classes including the original BRT/BMT “Standards,” BMT D-Type Triplex, R-11 Prototype and even the IND R-1-9s who began and ended their service on BMT lines. Riders will be able to experience the varied cars this weekend from noon to 4PM, beginning at the Brighton Beach Q station.
